One of the two day programs at The Red Mile is being contested today for the The Kentucky Futurity and Kentucky Filly Futurity plus the two Allerage Farms Filly and Mare Opens. In addition, 3yo Pacing Colts and Geldings make their Red Mile debut in the Bluegrass Series. Unlike at Delaware, both the Futurity and Filly Futurity require the winner to win two heats, even if it means a race off for the two heat winners.
This year, we don't have a large number of entries so all ten entrants in the Futurity return for the second heat while the fillies which have twelve entrants, will have only the the top ten finishers return for the second heat. So while fifteen races are on the card, we may anywhere from thirteen to fifteen races on Sunday, depending on the results of the two heats for each stake. With each race wide open, the chances for a race off in each division may be possibility.
