Friday evening features some of North America's top trotters in the $191,000 Muscle Hill for aged mare trotters and the $200,000 Credit Winner for open trotters at Vernon Downs which happens to be part of HANA Harness' The Pen vs. The Chip Handicapping Challenge (for selections from the team of eight pen and chip handicappers, you may check the contest website for information). In addition to these two events, there is also the $64,600 Debutante for 2yo filly pacers. In addition to the ten race wagering card, there will be nine-horse RUS exhibition race conducted between races two and three.
Unfortunately, the Debutante and the Credit Winner have only four horse fields. While there is some understanding for the Debutante to be short of entries, being Saturday night the $226,763 Champlain Stakes being contest at Mohawk, there is no excuse for the Credit Winner to draw only four horses with no major stakes for aged trotters on the docket for this weekend. One day if this race continously draws poorly and the race is cancelled, you will be sure to continue hearing people bemoan the fact there are not enough racing opportunities for aged horses.
