Terror to Love Repeats in New Zealand Cup; Openess

Terror to Love won the 2012 New Zealand Cup at Addington Raceway, completing the 3,200 meter race in 3:58.6 (mile rate of 1:59.9).  The five year old son of Western Terror's winning margin was 0.8 lengths, defeating High View Tommy and Sushi Sushi who finished second and third respectively in the Cup.  In winning this year's event, Terror to Love becomes another two-time winner having won last year's race in 4:02.0.  Auckland Reactor, who got away cleanly, managed to get as close as second with roughly 550 meters remaining before quiting badly to finish last, 11.7 lengths behind.

One thing which impresses me with racing down under is their openness.  A perfect example of their openness is their stewards reportmade available to the wagering public less than one day after the day's racing is done.  This report contains many things; suspensions handed out that day (justice administered the same day), objections (they have them down under), horses that were tested (swabbed), horses put on the stewards list, and race comments of the stewards.  For example, while reading the report, we learned Auckland Reactor tired so badly at the end of the race that the vets examined the pacer to make sure nothing was wrong with him.  We learned Caribbean Blaster and Stunin Cullen were driven very aggressively in the middle portion of the race and other facts.

While same day rulings are highly unlikely in North America, there is no reason why the rest of the information can't be made available to the racing public.  After all, openness promotes wagering.
