Hambletonian Eligibles Doing Battle in NJSS

The Road to the Hambletonian and Hambletonian Oaks is well under way. This road began with the Dexter Cup and Lady Suffolk stakes at Freehold back in early May and continues. For New Jersey sired horses, the road continues this week at the Meadowlands in the second leg of the New Jersey Sires Stakes on Thursday and Friday evening. Of the five NJSS races, Friday nights third race is likely the most exciting race as Temple of Doom and Break The Bank K lock horns. Either one of these horses has the potential to win the race. In Friday’s fifth race, Greg Peck shows up with The First Time who finished third in his second start when competing against Temple of Doom; could he be an up and coming horse?

Here are my selections for the NJSS races on Thursday and Friday evening. If a horse is eligible to Hambletonian, a ‘(H)’ will be denoted after their name.

Meadowlands – Thursday, June 3
2nd Race – Trot - $20,200; New Jersey Sires Stakes – 3yo fillies – 2nd leg (1st div)
1 – IPO Blue Chip (6-1) – Fair effort in first start back, may land minor share.
2 – Full Tank (5-2) – Filly has not yet fired this year but was very successful in 2009. Expect better performance in third start.
3 – Unefoisdansmavie (8-5) – Winner of late closing series for non-winners of two. Time to see if she has the ability.
4 – Religulous (5-1) – Winner of Lady Suffolk division at Freehold looking to repeat that performance. Lady Suffolk driver returns. May be upset possibility.
5 – Highland Glider (8-1) – Seems to be in deep here. Pass.
6 – Orizaba (10-1) – Maiden shows too many breaks for my liking.
7 – Wingbat (12-1) – Perfect three for three with regards to breaking in betting races. Can’t recommend.
Selections: 4-2-1

3rd Race – Trot - $20,200; New Jersey Sires Stakes – 3yo fillies – 2nd leg (2nd div)
1 – Croquet Style (6-1) – Grand Circuit winner jumped off in seasonal debut. Finished 2nd against Costa Rica in the morning. Possible upset chance.
2 – Quite Possible (10-1) – Had success against cheaper. Doesn’t seem to be up to these.
3 – No I’m Not - Tired in first start off layoff against Costa Rica. May be good enough here.
4 – Will Of A Woman (8-1) – Would take a lot to compete.
5 – Boinga (3-1) – Favorite failed after making two moves. Wins with better effort.
6 – Muscle Amour (5-2) – Factor. Include in exotics.
7 – Title IX (4-1) – Came in second to Costa Rica in career debut. Fluke or a sign of what to come? Want to see more.
Selections: 5-3-6

5th Race – Trot - $20,200; New Jersey Sires Stakes – 3yo fillies – 2nd leg (3rd div)
1 – Jettalady (3-1) – Tired late in first leg from post nine. Draws the rail. Consider.
2 – Power of Motion (10-1) – Seems to be over her head.
3 – Keystone Tabby (4-1) – Just missed in Lady Suffolk; first of three place finishes. Looks to break maiden here.
4 – Reviewer (12-1) – Seems more suited to the half miler.
5 – Cathywithac (9-2) – Maiden must be up closer earlier to be a factor.
6 – Yansky (5-1) – Brave effort being parked the whole way in last. Better trip can result in an upset.
7 – Bar Slide (5-2) – Was on the lead when she jumped in last. Seems to jump at the worst time. No value.
Selections: 6-1-3

Meadowlands – Friday, June 4
3rd Race – Trot - $28,200; New Jersey Sires Stakes – 3yo colts and geldings – 2nd leg (1st div)
1 – Muscle Massive(H) (8-1) – Needed last start. Threat from rail.
2 – Bullet(H) (15-1) – Never a factor before being wiped out in last. Pass.
3 – Temple Of Doom(H) (3-1) – Only has Break The Bank K to defeat.
4 – Plan of Action (5-1) – This field may be too deep for him.
5 – Break The Bank K(H) (4-5) – Will be around in the stretch but offers poor value.
6 – Classic Viking(H) (10-1) – Tough spot in this race.
7 – Xclusiv(H) (15-1) – Maiden is overmatched.
Selections: 3-5-1

5th Race – Trot - $28,800; New Jersey Sires Stakes – 3yo colts and geldings – 2nd leg (2nd div)
1 – Flashback(H) (10-1) – May need another start. Pass.
2 – Borga Crash (15-1) – Late bloomer may have some potential. Jumped in last but returns to stable of trainer who had success with him at Pompano.
3 – Take My Picture(H) (5-2) – Has wheeled off three place finishes. Has potential to win.
4 – The First Time (9-2) – Has come back well. Peck trainee is a definite threat.
5 – Flex The Muscle(H) (3-1) – Dexter Cup champion failed in last. May have already peaked?
6 – Priority Photo(H) (8-1) – Bluegrass winner may need another start to reach peak.
7 – Rap’s Legacy(H) (5-1) – Wouldn’t surprise me if he managed to land in exotics.
8 – Senor Glide(H) (6-1) – Not sure this promising two year old has come back as strong.
Selections: 4-3-2
