Ben Franklin Elims, More Reynolds

With Saturday’s stake races already covered, let’s take a look at Sunday and Monday’s stakes action. Sunday brings us the Ben Franklin eliminations at Chester Downs where the FFA pacers attempt to qualify for next week’s final. On Monday, Pocono Downs continues hosting the Reynolds Memorial, for two and three year olds, but we will concentrate our attention to the three year old trotting fillies.

The Ben Franklin eliminations promise to be competitive events. The first division (9th race) is features Shark Gesture, winner of the Bettors Delight and Dan Patch, and Hypnotic Blue Chip, winner of the Battle of Lake Erie while the second division (12th race) features a matchup between Won The West and Foiled Again. This is not to say these are two horse races; there is enough depth to make these races competitive and interesting wagering events.

In the Reynolds Memorial on Monday, it is a different story. While the races may be good wagering affairs, it is more due to the question marks in these races. Full Tank was highly regarded before he pulled up in a NJSS event at the Meadowlands. Barham Hanover showed promise last year but so far this year has been unable to live up to the potential shown last year. Felicity Hall was undefeated last year in the KYSS but seems to be late to the party this year so it is unknown if she will fire at first asking. Caution seems to be the watch word for these races.

My analysis of the Ben Franklin Eliminations and Reynolds tilts in addition to Sunday’s Tioga selections follow.

Chester Downs – 9th Pace - $50,000; Ben Franklin Elimination – FFA
1 Mr Wiggles (6-1) – Has tailed off from early season success. Seems to be in deep here.
2 Atochia (5-1) – While certainly not the cream of the FFAllers, he is able to compete with them. May very well land a share.
3 Hypnotic Blue Chip – Battle winner is at this peak. Has the potential of knocking off the Shark at a decent price.
4 Shark Gesture (4-5) - Dan Patch winner is the top dog but offers no value. Took a week off.
5 Three of Spade (20-1) – Will be lucky to pick up a check. Pass.
6 Annieswesterncard (10-1) - Been competitive in this division but needs racing luck to be a factor.
Selections: 3-4-2

Chester Downs – 12th Race - $50,000; Ben Franklin Elimination – FFA
1 Dial Or Nodial (6-1) – Has woken up since racing at Chester. May land a share.
2 Vintage Master (9-2) – Seems to be rounding into form. Has closing kick which would help if speed duel develops.
3 Dali (5-1) – Canadian invader has legitimate chance to know off the top two with a trip. Consider.
4 Won The West (3-1) – Gets away from the Shark. Is the horse to beat.
5 Keep It Real (8-1) – Expect early challenge. Don’t expect to see him at the end.
6 Foiled Again (9-5) - Half mile specialist will be overbet. Should land in the money.
Selections: 3-4-6

Monday, July 12
Pocono Downs – 14th Trot - $25,000; Reynolds Memorial – 3yo Fillies (1st division)
1 Agenda Tom Ridge (4-1) - Steady sort figures to be in the money here.
2 Pearly Princess (9-2) – Won second tier state bred race in last and picks up Sears. Can’t ignore.
3 Ruffles (5-1) – Winless this year. Pass.
4 Offbroadway De View (7-2) – Filly making second start of year should improve. May get value here.
5 Full Tank (8-1) – Makes return after being pulled up in NJSS event. Need to see a race.
6 Apple Plush (10-1) – Seems to have lost her form. Pass.
7 Photo Charm (3-1) – Winner of two straight draws poorly. Is the horse to beat.
8 Liz (12-1) – Outclassed here. Pass.
Selections: 4-7-2

Pocono Downs – 15th Trot - $25,000; Reynolds Memorial – 3yo Fillies (2nd division)
1 Jewel of Broadway (20-1) – Making first start off scratched sick. Pass.
2 Madam Hooch (4-1) – Occasional shows a good effort. May land share with trip.
3 Levi’s Lady (9-2) – Already won stakes race this year but was a scratched sick in last.
4 Upfront Ob’s Janet (7-2) – Shown little of late. Pass.
5 Barham Hanover (3-1) – Meets and easier field here and is the one to beat.
6 Title IX (8-1) – Has not yet shown she can compete with these.
7 Royal Clout (6-1) – Good when flat but showing recent miscues. Pass.
8 Broadway Galaxy (10-1) – Maiden coming in; maiden going out.
9 Tactical Caviar (15-1) – Recovered from an early miscue in last to finish fourth. Could be an upset.
Selections: 3-9-2

Pocono Downs -16th Trot - $25,000; Reynolds Memorial – 3yo fillies (3rd division)
1 Andovermetreasure (9-2) – Won last at Pocono before miscue in most recent. Don’t ignore in exotics.
2 Dances With Dogs (6-1) – Trying easier hoping for a victory. Must see more.
3 Felicity Hall (4-1) – Hard to gauge making first start of year. Tab for later.
4 Celebrity Spirit (7-2) – Finished second in Elegantimage Consolation. Seems to have class edge over field.
5 Sabana Hanover (15-1) – Has been awful of late. Pass.
6 Lil’ Miss Tut (20-1) – Another which shows little promise here. No chance.
7 Spectacular Bay (8-1) – Good when flat but don’t know which one shows up today.
8 Ally-Gal Ridge (3-1) – Upset winner of PASS at Meadows. Must respect but don’t see as a favorite.
9 Miss Ridge (10-1) – Post eliminates.
Selections: 4-8-1-2
